Sutton Adopt a Troop Program, Inc. - Supporting Our Troops and Families
Thank you for taking the time to visit.
Sutton Adopt a Troop Program, Inc. is focused on providing supplies and emotional support for soldiers currently stationed overseas as well as many of the families they work with daily during their assignments.

We work with several units currently, as well as a few specific soldiers that have been identified or "nominated" by a concerned friend or relatives.  If at any time you know of a Unit or Soldier that could use support, please email us.

There is no specific list of requests at this time.  However, we have listed recommendations down below.  As well, many of the soldiers are going out into the communities and visiting families.  They have requested items such as school supplies and inexpensive toys such as coloring books and crayons, small matchbox cars along with hard candies.  Remember, it is now a very hot time of the year there - so please donate accordingly. Also, socks always make a great donation - as the children and families often have none.

With regards to the requests from the soldiers, it has honestly been a heart-warming experience that most have put the requests for the families first.  However, they have said that short notes and hand-drawn pictures are more important than anything - they need the morale boost as things are very difficult right now. They love to hang these up or keep them with them while they are in the field.

Additional Supply Requests:

Long white athletic socks, foot powder, beef jerky, kool aid mix (individual packets), hard candy, toiletry items, chapstick and first aid supplies.  As well, they have requested books - these can be used. Should you have any questions about a specific donation, please contact us via email.

Sutton Adopt A Troop Program, Inc. will be collecting all of these items continually and sending them out to the bases and sites for distribution in packages.  If you have questions about how to make a donation drop-off or schedule a pick-up, please email us.

We want to thank you for helping the Program be so successful in 2009 and so far 2010 has been a miraculous year.  We are seeing donations in excess of over 20 boxes a month to get out to the Units. (That is an amzaing number -- last year we had 4-5 boxes a month!)  It has been an exciting, but very busy time trying to keep up with the donations.  You have been amazing!  One thing that would help tremendously at this point would be donations for postage.  Postage has been quite expensive - as we have had many packages sent out and funds can be rapidly being depleted.  Please feel free to contact us if you are interested in donating.  We have a direct email account: suttonadoptatroop@live.com  As well, you may mail any donations to:  Sutton Adopt A Troop, P.O. Box #172, Sutton, MA 01590.  Please remember any monetary donations will be accepted and spent per your request. Please make all checks payable to "Sutton Adopt A Troop".  Also note, we are in the process of preparing our filing for a 501(c)3 organization and will keep you updated.

I have a new letter to post from a Unit in Iraq that discusses the happiness of his soldiers as he was able to hand out the donations from the boxes when they arrive and what a help it was to boost morale during a very difficult period.  I don't want to put words in his mouth, so I will wait until I have access to the letter so I can put down the actual words.

On a personal note, Sutton Adopt A Troop Program, Inc. was written up in the Uxbridge Times with a wonderful article.  As a result, I have met several family members in the area that have loved ones that are deployed, along with others that are just willing to help.  I want to thank Connie Dwyer for such a heart-warming article and all those that I have met these past few months.  May we all continue to work together and build this Program even stronger.

Our goal is to be able to update this site even more frequently.  (Maybe even recruit someone to help!)  We hope that you will continue to check back for updates as well as news, photos and updated lists of items that are currently needed.  Thank you again for all of your support.
